Once you have made the commitment to create or reinvent your brand, we will set up a discovery call to get to know each other! Please check out my website and client portfolio before we begin. Continue reading to get my tips on how to best prepare for our discovery call.
I think it’s important to get to know each other a little before we start our journey together. My hope is that we understand what we expect from the process and each other. I need to get my brain around your vision and expectations, and I want you to feel comfortable with my style and practices. If my minimalist approach to design, or my excessive use of exclamation points don’t suit you, I want to know!!!
My job as your designer is to listen, advise, and create. Your role as my collaborator is to provide timely responses, and necessary homework. Understanding what we expect from each other is a key component in our working relationship.
To get started, I like to spend up to an hour chatting with new clients in a get-to-know-you “Discovery Call.” Here are a few things to keep in mind as you prepare:
· Be as clear as you can be about your vision for your brand. No detail is too small – the more I know about your product or service and what ideas are in your head, the better I can bring them to life!
· Keep in mind that this is a collaboration and open communication on both of our ends is key to keeping projects on time and within budget. The quicker you can provide materials, respond to questions, and make decisions, the more efficient and responsive I can be.
· Review the resources on my website. Even if I’m not building a website for you, it may be helpful for you to read my Website Planning Guide to help get your head around your vision and goals. (The first three questions are a good place to start!)
· Keep an open mind! Working with any new designer means trying new things and learning what you like and don’t like. Sometimes – because we don’t know what we don’t know – unexpected ideas, concepts, and possibilities pop up out of the blue.
Another great way for me to get to know you and your brand, is for me to take a peek into your world. What brands do you love and why? Is there a particular website, store, or company that inspires you? Send me some samples of things that speak to you, make you feel good, or impress you. Knowing what styles and aesthetics you find beautiful makes my job easier, and will help us both to create your brand identity in less time with fewer revisions.
My ultimate goal for your Discovery Call is for you to feel comfortable, informed, and excited to begin our work together. I put my heart and soul into my work with my clients, and I know you do, too. Together, let’s create something beautiful, unique, and on-brand! You ready?
